Music is Love in Search of a Word – February 2012 Newsletter

During February of each year, we celebrate Black History Month. We also celebrate the special holiday of Valentine’s Day, when we honor the people we love. Some writers have characterized “music” as love in search of a word. Linking music with Black History month in this month’s enewsletter, we feature African-American women in the music field – singer Ella Fitzgerald, composer Florence Beatrice Smith Price, and pianist Hazel Harrison.

Tis the season! – Kalon Women December 2011 Issue

This time of year often provides us the opportunity to visit and break bread wth family and friends. The smell of turkey roasting! The aroma of the pies! What memories it brings back for many of us! This month we profile some of the women who have made possible those wonderful memories of safe and delicious food: Fannie Farmer, Mary Engle Pennington, Julia Child, Joyce Chen, and Alice Waters.

National Women’s Hall of Fame – 2011 Inductees – June 2011 Newsletter

In 1848, the first Women’s Rights convention was held in Seneca Falls, New York. After two days of discussion and debate, 68 women and 32 men signed the Declaration of Sentiments, based on its more famous sister, The Declaration of Independence, but with words that were probably considered heresy at the time “that all men and women are created equal”.
